NASCAR: Looking at results from last weekend at the Indianapolis Speedway…
- Sprint Cup…. Pole winner Ryan Newman picked up his first win at the Brickyard last Sunday… This win which was the 17th of his career but first since April 2012 could be a big one for the Indiana native because at the end of the season he will be unemployed …. Three weeks ago the Stuart-Haas Racing Team announced that Kevin Harvick will be replacing him…. Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top 5.
- Sprint Cup Standings… There was no change in the top 5 drivers in the Sprint Cup standings… Jimmie Johnson is 1st followed by Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr… Occupying the 6-10 spots are Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon… Tony Stewart and Martin Truex Jr. are on the bubble in the next two spots.
- Nationwide… On Saturday, pole sitter Kyle Busch led 92 of 100 laps but it was close at the end as he edged out Brian Scott just over 2 seconds… Joey Logano, Brian Vickers and Kevin Harvick rounded the top 5.
- Nationwide Standings…. Austin Dillon moved up two spots to claim the top spot… Regan Smith held on to the 2nd spot, Elliot Sadler moves up one spot to 3rd, Sam Hornish Jr. fell from 1st to 4th and Brian Vickers rounds out the top 5.
NFL:
- Panthers: No practice scheduled for today
- An NFL Player Lost $2 Million Because He Didn’t Realize He Had To Go To Offseason Practices… Did you hear about San Francisco 49er corner back Tarell Brown who had his 2013 salary cut by $2 million after he failed to participate in the team’s voluntary offseason program… That was 68% of his potential salary for the upcoming season… How did this happen you ask? Seems his agent agreed to a clause in his contract that would raise his salary by that amount if he participated in mini camps and workouts throughout the summer… Brown said he was unaware of the clause and his agent did not remind him… He fired his agent… Moral of story, read the fine print yourself and for the agent, you would have made more if you had remembered to tell him.
