Several hundred supporters descended upon the Civic Center of Anderson Monday evening for a BBQ fund-raiser supporting South Carolina 3rd District Congressman Jeff Duncan.
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky spoke to those assembled and in addition to voicing loud support for Congressman Duncan harshly criticized the direction of the country. He pointed out the fallacy of the hardships created by the infamous sequester, telling the crowd that there were no real cuts involved……only a slowing of growth in government spending. “Last year, your government spent $375,000 to find out if a rattlesnake would strike a squirrel if the squirrel didn’t wag his tail. “ he said. “And….uh, yes it will”.
He also criticized some foreign aid, revealing that among the countries the United States assists with aid is China. “So, we are borrowing money from China so that we can provide aid to……China. Does that make sense?” the Senator asked.
South Carolina’s junior US Senator, Tim Scott also spoke. He told the crowd that Jeff Duncan was his roommate in Washington and he knew Jeff to be a man of faith in God. He recounted several examples of tough decisions that had to be made and said that now everyone expects Jeff to be the one to say “Let’s pray about it.”
The evening concluded with Congressman Duncan addressing the crowd and thanking them for the opportunity to represent the 3rd District in the US House of Representatives.
