Over five tons of litter was reportedly removed from Laurens County roadways, following last weekend’s County-wide Litter Clean-up event. Laurens County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Greg Alexander said “Looks like another successful cleanup effort across Laurens County on Saturday.” Alexander said the total amount of trash from the cleanup reported from the county convenience sites was 3 1/2 boxes. At approximately 10,500 pounds per box, that’s 5.25 tons.
The Laurens County Chamber’s Beautification Committee organizes four county-wide litter pickup campaigns each year.
In addition, the Sheriff’s Office and several partnering organizations are planning a 2nd Community Clean-up for late this month. Using the same pattern that was successful in the Wattsville community this summer, people will gather the morning of Saturday, September 28th for picking up trash throughout Joanna, then come back together in the evening for a block party to celebrate the success of the clean-up.
