An October 31st shooting that resulted in the death of an Enoree area man may have begun as an attempted Armed Robbery, according to warrants served on a suspect. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-old David Lee Walker of 106 Redmond Drive, Fountain Inn Wednesday, and now have charged him with Murder, Attempted Armed Robbery, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime and Possession of a Stolen Pistol. 61-year-old Johnny Lee Cheeks of 310 River Hill Road, Enoree died the day after the shooting, which also hospitalized David Walker.

Sheriff’s Lt. Bryant Cheek states that on October 31st David Walker, with malice and aforethought caused the death of Johnny Lee Cheeks by shooting him once in the back and once in the neck with a .380 handgun. Walker allegedly attempted to rob Mr. Cheeks while armed with a handgun, and was in possession of a stolen gun. Lt. Cheeks further notes that David Walker has previously been convicted of a violent crime, making him ineligible to possess a gun. Bond was denied on all four charges.
