It appears a would-be thief was startled, if not shocked, during a theft attempt at 3336 Milam Road, outside Clinton sometime after 5:30 yesterday morning. Sheriff’s Cpl Jimmy Johnson was dispatched to the location just before 8 and talked with a supervisor with Laurens Electric who noted it appeared someone attempted to cut a section of wire from poles behind the location down a maintenance path. This did pop the circuit for the area and the subject took off, leaving his tools behind. The power was reset and there appeared to have been no damage done – at least to the power line. Deputy Johnson collected the tools the would-be wire thief had left behind.
