Laurens City Police responded to Spring Street at 12:25 this morning after a 911 hang-up call. Officers indicated as they arrived Markemus Mims met them in the front yard and immediately began asking “so how we gonna do this?” They advised him they were there to be sure everything was alright and not criminal activity was taking place. He named another resident of the address was inside and was just being drunk. When police indicated they needed to go speak with the other man, Mims reportedly said he’d go get him. Officers indicated they needed to speak with the other man alone to ensure he was OK, and Mims allegedly said “(blank) that, I aint going anywhere.” When officers asked him to calm down, he reportedly yelled at officers, and took what police believed was an offensive stance. They placed him under arrest on a Public Disorderly Conduct charge. He reportedly resisted with a brief struggle, and was also charged with Resisting Arrest. Both charges were from tickets issued as of 12:32 this morning by Officer James Kanipe. 22-year-old Markemus Charamaine “Mikus” Mims of 119 Spring Street, Laurens was placed in the Johnson Detention Center, pending a bond hearing.
