Trafficking in Methamphetamine was one of the charges served yesterday on a Clinton man, following his arrest. Public Safety Officer Stephen Lawton reported he was on routine patrol on North Sloan when he observed a small white pickup make a left hand turn into Zee’s Food store without signaling the turn. He made traffic stop on the truck, and while asking the driver for license and registration reportedly observed a beer can near a passenger. He received backup from the Highway Patrol and other Clinton officers. During a search of the passenger, officers allegedly located coffee filters that field tested positive as containing methamphetamine. Public Safety then arrested 43-year-old Brandon Chadburn Byrd of 198 Byrd Drive, Clinton. He was initially cited with an Open Container violation and with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia as of midnight yesterday morning. Later in the day he was served with a warrant charging him with Trafficking in Methamphetamine. The warrant alleges that he did knowingly possess between 10 and 28 grams of coffee filters saturated with a white powder substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. This allegedly occurred at Zee’s Food Store, 322 West Main Street.
