Clinton Public Safety was dispatched to a residence on North Sloan Street at 6:12 last evening on a domestic disturbance, after an unknown person called to report hearing arguing from the residence. Officer Naomi Bassett reported arriving on the scene to find the front door open. She looked into the house and observed condiments and broken glass all over the kitchen and living room areas. The officer also heard loud voices coming from the back bedroom, so she knocked on the door and a man and woman from inside the bedroom both came to the door.
The man reportedly indicated that the woman was angry because their children were out of milk and demanded that he go to the store. He said when he suggested that she go to the store while he stayed home with the children, she became irate and began throwing various things around the house. He stated he left the residence with both children at that time, and that when he returned later the woman began arguing with him again and went outside and vandalized his vehicle by scratching and gouging the paint on all the major surfaces of the vehicle.
The officer then spoke with the woman, who stated the man had taken condiments from the refrigerator and threw them on the floors of the kitchen, living room and bedroom. She stated he threw a broom at her and attempted to strike her with it. She reportedly admitted to scratching the man’s vehicle. Officer Bassett found clothing items in the bath tub that had been set on fire and the woman reportedly admitted to burning it; she stated that the man had poured bleach on her clothing and some of the children’s clothes. The man reportedly admitted that he poured bleach on the clothes.
Noting that the vandalism was mutual, Officer Bassett advised both the man and woman who charges could be made on both of them, if they wished to prosecute. Both declined to prosecute. The man s aid he was leaving the residence, and the officer stood by as he collected the rest of his personal items and escorted him to his vehicle.
