A Greenwood man was being held in Laurens County this morning following his arrest by Clinton Public Safety yesterday. Officer Stephen Lawton was on routine patrol at 4:07 when he reportedly observed a vehicle make a right turn from North Bell onto Bond Street without a turn signal and he made a traffic stop. The car, reportedly driven by a Greenwood man, was reported as registered to a Columbia man. Officers arrested
58-year-old Louis Brown of 511 Hall Drive, Greenwood and charged him with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Crack Cocaine and with Giving False Information to Police. Warrants state that Lewis Brown had in his possession and operated a motor vehicle yesterday that was stolen. He also was allegedly in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine. A third warrant states that he did provide false information about his name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer yesterday in order to conceal his identity during a criminal investigation. Bonds were set totaling $21,000 on the three charges. Lewis Brown was placed in the Johnson Detention Center, where he remained this morning.
He was also charged with Driving under Suspension and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia when arrested at 4:10 yesterday morning. $650 personal recognizance bonds were set on those charges.
A stolen 1999 Acura was recovered as a result of the Clinton Public Safety action.
