Clinton Public Safety has made an arrest in a case where a husband allegedly violated a court order to enter his wife’s residence Tuesday afternoon and allegedly assaulted her. 42-year-old Tony Ray Sherfield of 19985 Highway 72 East, Clinton was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Criminal Domestic Violence, Trespassing and Violation of a Court Order. He was also served with a Bench Warrant citing contempt of Magistrate’s Court.
Clinton Public Safety was dispatched to Sherfield’s estranged wife’s residence on Oakland Street at 3:03 Tuesday afternoon, where his wife and three other women reported entry into the house and an assault.
A Burglary 1st warrant charges him with entering the premises on Oakland Street without permission May 6th and once inside, committing a battery to his wife. That warrant, along with one charging Criminal Domestic Violence, allege that once inside the house he grabbed his wife by her right wrist, causing severe bruising; and that he struck her about the left side of her face, causing severe redness. Sherfield was also charged with violation of an Order of Protection and with Trespass after Notice for the alleged entry into the mobile home on Oakland Street Tuesday afternoon. Warrants note there was a valid Order of Protection from Laurens County Family Court in effect and that Sherfield had been served with a notice not to trespass on the property.
In addition to the charges from Public Safety, Municipal Court Judge Joel Whitsel issued a commitment of 30 days to Tony Sherfield for Contempt of Magistrate’s Court.
During arraignment yesterday, bond was denied on the charges of Burglary 1st Degree and Violation of a Court Order. A $10,000 cash or surety bond was set on the Criminal Domestic Violence charge, and a $1,000 bond was set on the Trespass case.
Tony Ray Sherfield was transported to the Johnson Detention Center yesterday, where he remained today.
