Laurens Police responded to a north-side residence at 8:33 last night on a report of a dispute. Sgt. Joey Pittman learned that a 3-year-old girl who had suffered 2nd degree burns to her chest and arms last Friday while with her mother in Simpsonville had been dropped off at her father’s home this past weekend. The mother reportedly gave two versions of how the child was injured, one noting the child was burned when removing noodles from the microwave, the other that she spilled hot coffee. While reportedly taken to a hospital for care last week, she apparently had not been receiving follow-up care until she was delivered to her father’s house in Laurens. She was taken to the Laurens County Memorial hops. yesterday. Sgt. Pittman determined that it seems the mother in incapable of caring for her daughter. He contacted Greenville County DSS, where a case worker agreed. The mother was informed either the child should stay with her family in Laurens or be taken into Foster care, to ensure she gets the care she needs. The child was released to custody of her father in Laurens.
