Clinton Public Safety Officer Harris responded to Thornwell Home for Children at 5:23 yesterday afternoon to investigate a report of children killing chickens. On arrival, three children were being held by adults. The kids initially denied killing chickens, blaming others who had run away before police arrived. They later reportedly admitted their participation, and indicated they had done the same thing the previous day. Meanwhile, identity of the others who were allegedly involved was determined and their parents were asked to bring these kids to the police station. During the investigation into the killing of chickens at Thornwell, officers learned that three of the juvenile subjects had stolen a gate and post around 4:00 pm from Thornwell. Officer Isphording retrieved the stolen items from a house on Gary Street. Officers advised the juveniles and their parents that a report of the incident would be sent to DJJ and that all the juveniles are subject to charges through Juvenile Justice and could serve time in DJJ. Six Juvenile offenders were listed, including females aged 11 and 13, two 11-year-old males and two more males aged 10 and 13. The recovered gate and post were valued at $500.
