You may recall reports lately of people stealing items from unlocked cars in Laurens. Multiple vehicles from one neighborhood are sometimes entered overnight, but not always in the same neighborhood. Here’s a case of a single unlocked vehicle being entered.
Laurens Police Officer Hal Martin responded to 800 Spring Street at 11:08 yesterday morning on a report of an auto break-in. A Gray Court area woman said she had inadvertently left her vehicle unlocked when she parked in front of her daughter’s apartment, then later discovered her Kenwood stereo system had been stolen. Value of the system was $250. A check with apartment management turned up a video of a man walking through the complex yesterday morning while carrying a blue umbrella and arrived at the victim’s car at about 5:30 am. While some description of the suspect was observed, it appeared he knew where the cameras are and was using the umbrella to shield himself from the cameras.
