Sports Report for Tuesday, 10-14-2014

The Presbyterian College football team took the lead early in the second half of its Saturday afternoon matchup against No. 3 Coastal Carolina, but the visiting Chanticleers pulled away to avoid the upset bid, winning 40-28… PC moves to 3-3 on the year and 0-1 in the Big South… The Blue Hose will next head to Charleston Southern for a 3 p.m. kickoff this Saturday… For more details on last Saturday’s game, click on the following link: PC Upset Bid Falls Short

  

Middle School Volleyball: GCO 3 – Sanders 1… In middle school volleyball action yesterday at Gray Court-Owings, the Lady Tigers took a 3-0 win over the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets of Sanders,., Set scores were  25-10, 25-17 and 25-23… Congratulations to the Lady Tigers.

 

Volleyball: LDHS 3 – Clinton 1… The Lady Raider volleyball teams traveled to Clinton yesterday to take in the Lady Red Devils and in varsity action the Lady Raiders took a 3-1 win in what I understand was a very exciting match getting a measure of revenge for a loss to the Red Devils earlier this season at Laurens… If I get more details on the match, I’ll get them to you.

 

Laurens Academy

  • Varsity Volleyball… Congratulations to the Lady Crusader varsity volleyball team as they captured the region championship when they defeated Newberry Academy 3-0… The Lady Crusaders also honored their seniors on that night… There seniors are Taylor Williamson, Savannah Mitchell, Sydney Halbert and Caroline Verdin… Congratulations to these young ladies and the team as it moves on the SCISA Upper State Tournament which starts this Thursday in Sumter.
  • Middle School Volleyball… Congratulations also go out the LA Middle School volleyball team as they won the Region Middle School Championship this past weekend going undefeated in the tournament… Ruthie Moore and Katelyn Suttles were named to the All-region Team… Again congratulations to the team and these two young ladies.

  • FBS AP Poll…   Well there is a new #1 in this week’s AP FBS college football poll… Mississippi state moved from a tie for 3rd up to #1 dropping Florida Sate to #2… Mississippi checks in @ #3 while Baylor and Notre Dame round out the top 5… Auburn dropped from #2 to #6 while Alabama, Michigan St., Oregon and Georgia round out the top 10… Clemson checks back into the poll at # 24… For the complete top 25 AP Poll this week, click on the following link: NCAA FBS AP Poll

  • Pancake Breakfast: Sanders Middle School will be having an ALL YOU CAN EAT pancake breakfast this Saturday October 18th, from 7:30-10:00am at FATZ Cafe in Clinton. Sanders middle school had tickets available for this even for $8:00.   • 1984 Football Team Reunion…There will be a reunion of the 1984 football team, cheerleaders and coaches before the October 24th game at home with Westside… There will be a supper prepared for the honored guest in the Commons area at 5:00 pm… If you are planning on attending, please call Ashley Hall at 683-3351 so they can be sure to prepare enough food.
  • Middle School Football Broadcast…. Join us here Thursday at 5:00 pm as we bring you all the action live from Wilder Stadium as the GCO Tigers takes on the BSR Wildcats…. And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Coach Chris Liner Show….  Be sure to join Coach Chris Liner each Monday night at the House of Pizza in the Western Square as they talk not only Raider football but football in general… The show starts at 7:00 pm each Monday … From 6:00 until closing on Monday nights they will selling wings for 75₵ each (that’s 25₵ of the normal price)… They will also have some wing and pizza combo specials available… So bring the family and come enjoy the food and conversation … If you can’t make it, you can always catch the show on Real Radio 860 WLBG or on the internet at www.wlbg.com
  • Varsity Football on WLBG: Be sure to tune into the Friday Night Insider Show with Mike Hughes as your host at 5:30… He will have interviews with the coaches from Laurens Academy, Ware Shoals High and Clinton High about their game Friday night… He will also have the one and only Elmo P. Arbagoogle and his”predications” of local high school and college contest… Then at 6:05 we will join Stan Olenek for his high school pregame show… We will then go live to Simpsonville for all the action as the Raiders take on a region opponent the Rams of Hillcrest… Doug Holiday will do the play-by-play and King Dixon will join him for color commentary while Mike Hughes reports from the side lines and Philip Dean will bring you all the statistics… Be sure to take your FM radio and pick us up on the in-stadium transmitter at 96.9 or 96.7 on the FM dial.
