Laurens Police were dispatched to a residence at 5:20 yesterday afternoon when a man called with concern for the welfare of his sister-in-law. Lt. Brandy Anderson spoke with a man and his wife who were afraid that the woman’s sister would be harmed by her daughters. They noted an altercation had occurred. Lt. Anderson talked with the individual, who showed the officer her cell phone and said her daughter had smashed the screen. The daughter had allegedly jerked the phone from her hand in anger and smashed it against the wall. The daughter reportedly came up to her mother and begged her not to have her arrested, saying she would call someone and get the money to replace it. The woman with the broken phone said she wanted the phone replaced but she doubted her daughter would do it. Lt. Anderson spoke with the daughter, advising her she has until 7:00 am this Friday to get the phone replaced. The daughter suggested she might have trouble getting all the money by Friday, but could “do half.” The officer advised her that a warrant for her arrest would be obtained if the entire funds were not in by 7:00 am Friday. The cost in question was $400.
