A massive manhunt was mounted in the Sandy Springs area of Laurens County from late yesterday morning through the afternoon and into the night, looking for a man wanted by several law enforcement agencies. At approximately 9:15 last night 21-year-old Jeffery Tyler Wilson of 5249 Hwy 49, Laurens turned himself in to authorities on scene in the Sandy Springs Community. He was delivered to the county detention center around 1:00 this morning by Lt. Blackmon. Sheriff Chastain told WLBG that deputies had gone to the man’s residence with warrants around 11:00 but the man fled the scene. He was reportedly observed running into nearby woods. He had reportedly been observed wearing a yellow shirt. Many law enforcement vehicles were positioned along a long stretch of Highway 49 and during the search yesterday. The State Law Enforcement Division had a SLED Dog Team searched through the area. Sheriff Ricky Chastain told WLBG that Deputies from Union and Greenwood County were assisting Laurens County in the search.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office yesterday said Wilson was wanted out of Simpsonville City and is also a suspect to several burglaries in Union County, Saluda County, Spartanburg County and Greenwood County.
21-year-old Jeffery Tyler Wilson of 5249 Hwy 49 remained in the Johnson Detention Facility this morning, with charges pending.
Also being held overnight for charges was 25-year-old Clifford Murrell Pierce, also of 5249 Highway 49, Laurens.
