PC Notes: The PC basketball teams have been out of action for a few days because of exams… That ends tomorrow as the men host Montreat in a 2:00 contest… Why don’t you make plans to go out tomorrow and take in some college basketball?

LDHS

  • JV G: Laurens 39 – Spartanburg 32… The Raider girls JV team traveled to Spartanburg last night and defeated the Lady Vikings 39-32… Sorry no scoring details…
  • JV B: Sorry the coach did not report the score of the JV boys game at Spartanburg

CHS: The Red Devil varsity basketball teams travelled to Byrnes last night to take on the Rebels

  • G: Byrnes 60 – Clinton 28… The Lady Red Devils got off to a slow start last night and trailed 15-3 at the end of the first and that was a hole they just could not get out of as the Lady Rebels took a 60-28 win… To their credit, they did try to fight back in the second quarter scoring just one less point than Byrnes in that frame. In the second half Clinton just had trouble getting the ball in the hole as Byrnes outscored them 30-11 after halftime… Coach Wofford said afterwards “Got off to a slow start and battled back but could not buy a basket. Played extremely hard and the effort was there. While the score doesn’t show it, we got better tonight.”… Three Clinton players scored 5 points each… They were DeNaishia Floyd, Trevoria Dendy & Chrishantei Johnston… KT Speaks & Shauna Goforth each had 4 points while M.K. Kelly had 3 and Izzy Worley 2.

  • JV Girls: Newberry 29 – Clinton 25… No scoring details available
  • JV Boys: Clinton 46 – Newberry 32… CHS led 14-4 after 1 quarter, 21-9 at the half, and 34-21 after 3 quarters… All 15 players played significant minutes for CHS with 9 different players scoring… Tashymen Boyd led CHS with 13 points, Shimeek Gaskins had 9 points, Zay Hurley had 6 points, Josh Williams had 6 points, Koko Richey had 5 points, King Price had 3 points, Vilo Boyd had 2 points, Dante Reeder had 1 point, and Brooks Threatt 1 point… Coach Eddie Romine said afterwards ‘We played good defense and rebounded well… We played with great intensity tonight!”… CHS JV boys’ record is now 5-1.

Laurens Academy… Last night the Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Northside Christian Crusaders out of Lexington SC.

  • G: LA 50 – NCA 19…  In the first varsity game, the LA girls’ team took a convincing 50-19 win over NCA… LA had 3 players scoring 10 or more points… They were Taylor Williamson with 13 while Taylor Campbell & Mariclare McEntire had 10 each… Others scoring were Hailey Hughes 6, Hannah Hughes 4, Sydney Fisher 4, Savannah Mitchell 2, and Caroline Verdin 1… The lady Crusaders are now 4-2 on the season.
  • B: LA 62 – NCA 50… The boys’ game was a little closer but LA did take a 62-50 win over NCA… Chase Brewington pumped in 20 points to lead his team while Austin Foster had 11 & Nate martin 10…. Also putting points on the scoreboard were Noah Stribling 8, Joshua Moore 7, Jonathan Burns 4, and Ryan Holmes 2…. The boys are now 3-3 on the season and both teams will be back in action tonight as they host Curtis Baptist  

Middle School Basketball

Bell Street Red @ Gray Court Owings 

  • G: BSR 11 – GCO10… Shy Haskell led BSR with 8 points… Paula Abrams led GCO with 4 points… Note… yesterday I told you theta the BSR boys defeated Honea Path 41-39 Wednesday but I did not know the score of the BSR vs. Honea Path girls game… well I know can tell you that HP defeated BSR 14-4.
  • B: BSR 47 – GCO 29… BSR used their size inside to take a 22-14 lead at the half and then went on to a 47-29 win… The BSR Wildcats broke the game open in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Tigers of GCO 21-5… In that period, Connor Richardson pumped in all 10 of his points for BSR… JD Payne led the Wildcats with a game high 15 points… Other Wildcats scoring were Titus Hood 7, Sam Tiller 6, Exodus Jones & Adam Priestly 3 each and Darian Bailey 2… A basket was accidentally scored for BSR by a GCO player…. Rodkevius Kelley and Jamaurice Lee led GCO with 6 points each…. Nigel Smith & Dante’ Garrett added 4 each, Zavon Barksdale had 3 each to round out the scoring.

Happenings at – Clinton & Laurens YMCA & City of Laurens Parks & Recreation

 

Clinton YMCA:  

  • The Clinton Family YMCA is offering Free Basketball Skills Clinics for youth ages 9-12… The clinics will be on Monday December 8th and again on Monday December 15th… They will run from 5:30 – 7:00 pm each day and are FREE… To register, call the YMCA at 833-1555

  • Youth Basketball… Registration is now open for youth basketball at the Laurens YMCA… It is open to youth ages 3-14 and will be divided into age appropriate divisions… The cost is $65 for members and $75 for nonmembers… Registration will close January 4th.
