A car chase involving Ware Shoals Police and a Honda Accord and a wreck of a pickup stolen from Laurens reportedly were tied together as the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office investigated overnight.
Around 8:00 last night Ware Shoals Police had attempted to stop a Honda Accord in town for a traffic violation. The car didn’t stop, and a police chase went outside the City Limits into Western Laurens County before being called off.
Meanwhile, Deputy Charles Nations was patrolling on Green Pond Road when he learned the Highway Patrol was dispatched to a wreck on US 76 in the Hickory Tavern area, near Bolt Road. At the scene, he learned the truck had run down an embankment and run into trees and extensively damaged. No one was around the truck. The pickup was registered to a man on Westview Drive, off Cain Road. Sgt. Nick Moye went to the residence and found four other cars at the house had been broken into, and ransacked.
He woke the residents and advised them of the break-ins and the theft of their black Ford F-150 pickup. Sgt. Moye noted that all five of the vehicles at the residence were unlocked, and three had keys inside, including the pickup that was stolen. A cell phone left behind in the stolen pickup was traced to Anderson County.
Deputies then received a call about a vehicle nearby, parked where it was blocking a person’s driveway on Highway 252 near Ft. Lindley Road. This was determined to be the Honda Accord chased by Ware Shoals Police earlier in the night. It was registered to a man in Anderson County.
Sheriff’s Deputies overnight had identified two male subjects from Anderson County in connection with the auto break-ins and the truck theft from Westwood Drive, Laurens. Their investigation was continuing.
At around 5:45 this morning deputies learned of a vehicle that was burning off Highway 76 West of Hickory Tavern, near where the stolen truck had been located.
