Southbound traffic on North Harper in Laurens was blocked for a time around 5 this morning when a logging truck headed into Laurens apparently had the logs stacked a bit too high. Laurens Police say that as the southbound truck went under the North Harper railroad trestle, a log was knocked off the top of the truck and the log fell onto the street, blocking both southbound lanes. Laurens City Police officers who lifted the 25-foot log off the roadway indicated it seemed to be a rather heavy log.
The railroad tussle did not appear damaged by the log striking it, but CSX was reportedly sending a bridge inspection team to be sure.
