An early morning traffic stop yesterday led to drug charges. Clinton Public Safety Officer Phillip Wicker reported he was on regular patrol at 1:40 yesterday morning on Willard Road when he observed a Jeep Cherokee pulling a trailer. He indicated the trailer had no tail lights, and obstructed the view of brake lights on the vehicle pulling it, so he made a traffic stop on Musgrove Street. The subject reportedly appeared to be nervous. A check on his license indicated he was wanted by Pickens County authorities so the man was placed in investigative detention. A check of the vehicle reportedly led to discovery of a pill bottle in the center console with part of the label missing. It allegedly contained a small amount of pills that Sgt. Cathy Anderson determined to be Schedule III and IV controlled substances. 42-year-old Jamie Lamar Kernells of 11424 Highway 56, Clinton was booked in City Jail at 1:58 am yesterday and charged with Possession of Schedule III and Schedule IV Controlled Substances. Personal Recognizance bonds o $3,000 were set on each of the two charges. Jamie Kernells was released to Pickens County later in the day yesterday.
