The 6th Season of “Laurens Idol” was announced yesterday by the City of Laurens. People 16 and older will compete for the $1,000 Grand Prize this season. A Laurens Junior Idol competition is also being held for folks in the 8 to 15 age range, with a Grand Prize of $200 on the line.
The event is sponsored again this year by the Laurens Parks and Recreation Department and GoLaurens.com.
Open auditions will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 6:00pm and Sunday, April 28 at 3:00pm at the Laurens Police Dept. on the second floor of the SunTrust building. All participants will be asked to sing a one-minute a cappella version of a song of their choice. Judges will select finalists for the Laurens Idol competition and finalists for the Jr. Idol competition.
The 2013 competition begins Thursday, June 6th at the Little River Amphitheater with all finalists performing. Voting will then be held on GoLaurens.com until midnight on Sunday night. Each Monday, GoLaurens.com will reveal the remaining finalists.
Competition continues subsequent Thursday evenings on June 13th and 20th. The five finalists in each division will perform Thursday, June 27. The finale is set for Wednesday, July 3 with the crowning of the 2013 Laurens Idols.
Applications for both Laurens Idol and Laurens Jr. Idol will be available at Laurens City Hall starting next Monday, April 15th. Registration continues until the auditions begin on April 25th.
