A Laurens man is wanted following a police pursuit through Wattsville early yesterday afternoon. Captain Richardson and Lt. Young were patrolling the community at 1:15 pm when they observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. They then observed a man get into the vehicle and take off at a high rate of speed. They followed, clocking the car doing 40 in 30-mile-per-hour zones on several streets before doing a traffic stop at the intersection of Clarey Street and Conway Avenue. A passenger in the car was observed with large bulges in his pants, and officers attempted to do a pat-down to assure no weapons were concealed. During the pat-down, Captain Richardson detected a large bag that could be marijuana inside the pocket. The subject then ran away from the officers, who refused commands to stop, reportedly running through several yards, jumping fences. A warrant was obtained to charge the man with Resisting Arrest and Breach of Peace, once he’s caught. The car, which belonged to this suspect’s girlfriend, was towed from the scene. The driver was cited for driving too fast.
