Laurens City Police were dispatched to a south side convenience store at 10:11 last night on a report of an Armed Robbery. A man on duty as a stocker in the Sonoco store at 1215 Greenwood Road told police that he saw two males come inside the store with their faces covered by what appeared to be a white wave cap or possibly a shirt. The men had handguns and one of them pushed the man into a corner. While he was being held at gunpoint, the second gunman reportedly went to the office where a woman was working, pointed a handgun at her and demanded she give him all the money inside the store. Police learned the subjects were wearing gloves as well as the face covering. They forced the victims to lie down on the floor and look away from them, then fled the scene on foot. It is thought they fled toward Fairview Road.
Laurens Police Officers cordoned off the crime scene and notified the Chief and the on-call investigator, who were on the scene shortly thereafter. The two men reportedly stole $3,000 cash along with a purple cigar box and a bank bag. The two Armed Robbers were described as black males between the age of 18 and 25.
