Dangerous Building Coming Down

A unanimous vote at this week’s Laurens County Council meeting approved a Resolution which transfers county funds to the City of Laurens to match City funds for the demolition of a dangerous downtown building. County Council agreed at their previous February meeting to cover half the cost of demolishing a building at the corner of East Main and North Harper, just off the Public Square. A previous owner reportedly went into default on the building and allowed it to deteriorate to the point it is deemed a danger to any pedestrians on adjoining sidewalks and to traffic passing by on Main and Harper Streets.

County Council is reportedly providing up to $39,325 from the Hunter Industrial Development Fund to help City Council with the demolition costs. The City informed County Council they plan to turn the site of the building into green-space.
