Local Sports Results: No local high school results from last night.

 College Notes:

 PC:

  • Coastal Carolina 70 – PC 51… The PC men’s basketball team traveled to Conway last night to take on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina… PC trailed by 5 at the half (23-28) but the Chanticleers pulled away in the 2nd half to take a 70-51 win… Markus Terry led the Blue Hose with 16 points… PC will travel to Winthrop Saturday for their final regular season game which will tipoff at 4:00 pm.
  • Men’s Tennis…  PC’s 11-2 men’s tennis team will host Longwood at 2:00 today… Go check them out… there will be free pizza!
  • Women’s Basketball:  Host Charleston Southern at 7:00 pm… It is the Lady Blue Hose final regular season home game and it is Senior Night as they honor Megan Schaaf, Karlee Taylor and Sherece Smith 10 minutes prior to tip-off.
  • Softball: host Moorehead State in a doubleheader at 2:00  & 4:00 pm

 

College Basketball Div. I Rankings

  • Men… Florida holds down the #1 spot this week with a record of 25-2… Wichita State is the only undefeated team in D-! with a 29-0 record comes in at #2… Arizona, Syracuse & Kansas round out the top 5… Duke, Louisville, Villanova, Creighton & St. Louis round out the top 10.
  • Women… Connecticut (28-0) & Notre Dame (27-0) come in at #1 & #2 respectively… Louisville, South Carolina & Stanford round out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Baylor, Duke, Penn State, Maryland & Tennessee…. By the way, the Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina (25-2) can clench the SEC regular-season title tonight at the Colonial Life Center… They will be hosting Georgia in a 7:00 pm contest which will be their last regular season home game… The 25-2 / 13-1 Gamecocks clinched a share of the SEC title with the win last Sunday against Florida…. Also the South Carolina men’s team lost to Auburn in Alabama last night 83-67.

  • Boys tennis host Chapin – Scrimmage   4:30

 Laurens Academy:

  • Boys Basketball:  The LA Crusader boy’s basketball team will be headed to Wilson Hall down in Sumter tonight to take on St. John’s Christian in semi-final action of the SCISA state basketball tournament… The tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.   Good luck to the Crusaders!!

  

FYI / Community Interest:

  • Travel Basketball Try-outs… LDHS varsity girls basketball Coach Yoneko Washington will be holding try-outs for a girls travel basketball team this Sunday March 2nd at the LDHS main gym… The try-outs are open to young ladies in grades 6-11… The try-outs will start at 5:30 and conclude at 7:30… There will also be a sign-up for girls in grades 3-5… For more information contact Coach Washington at ykwashington@laurens55.or or Melvin Allen at (864) 876-2526.
  • Laurens YMCA Registration for Spring Sports… The Laurens YMCA is registering youth for Tee Ball and Dixie Youth Baseball… Tee Ball & Dixie Youth is open to those ages 3-15 and registration closes March 17th… For more information about these call the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626 or go to the Y’s website www.laurensymca.org.
