Laurens City Police arrested a man early Sunday morning on multiple charges following an alleged failure to stop for a traffic checkpoint late Saturday night. 27-year-old Quinton Jabari Yeargin of 295 El Paso Court, Laurens was charged with Driving under the Influence and a 3rd or Subsequent Offense of Driving Under Suspension of his license as of 11:40 Saturday night on East Main at East Farley, according to tickets issued by Officer Patrick Craven. He was charged in warrants with Assault on Police, Resisting Arrest and Failure to Stop for Blue Light. A warrant alleges that Quinton Yeargin attempted to run over Officer Kanipe during the traffic safety checkpoint on March 2nd, rapidly accelerating and steering the vehicle towards the officer, causing fear of great bodily injury to the victim. The warrant lists multiple city and county officers as witnesses. Quinton Yeargin was also accused of failing to stop for multiple marked patrol vehicles with flashing blue lights and sirens. Once his car was stopped, on Truman Street, he allegedly exited the driver’s seat and fled on foot. He was told by pursuing officers several times that he was under arrest, but reportedly ran approximately 200 yards from the vehicle in an attempt to elude law enforcement Sunday during the incident on Truman Street.
Surety bonds on the charges were set totaling $31,000. Quinton J. Yeargin remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning.
