Cocaine Found in Routine Traffic Stop

On Saturday around 1:45 am Officer Lawton of the Clinton Department of Public Safety was performing routine traffic control on West Main Street in Clinton when he observed a vehicle stopped in the turn lane to make a left hand turn onto North Broad Street without a turn signal. After following the vehicle he then made a traffic stop. The driver stated she didn’t have her driver’s license on her but knew the number. The officer smelled marijuana in the vehicle and requested another unit respond to the scene. After giving false identity information to the officer the subject began to go through her center console as if to conceal something. The driver was asked to get out of the vehicle then tried twice to hide something on her person. She was placed in investigative detention at this time. Officers searched the vehicle and it was discovered that she had given false information and was arrested for that. A female deputy of the Sheriff’s Office than arrived and found a baggie that tested positive for marijuana the subject had attempted to hide.

Thedreica Simone Byrd of 590 Phillips StreetClinton, age 42, was booked and from the JohnsonDetentionCenter Saturday. The warrant states that on Saturday, August 30th she did have in her possession approximately 3.1 grams of a white powder substance that did field test presumptive positive for cocaine with the intent to distribute. This occurred on North Broad Street at East Ferguson Street in Clinton. Two tickets were issued, one for giving false information to police and the other for driving under suspension. She was released on bond Saturday.
