A thank you was given during this week’s Clinton City Council meeting. Rita Stanley, administrator of Bailey Manor, tearfully told council that last week’s emergency at Bailey Manor could have been a tragedy with multiple victims were it not for a quick and effective response by the city. She pointed out that both the fire and law enforcement divisions of the Department of Public Safety worked together and almost seamlessly with the Bailey Manor staff to get folks out of the building without incident or injury. She also commented on employees with the Department of Public Works and CNNGA and their swift work. She said their building did sustain damage but nothing like the kind of damage she feared would be the end result. In turn, City Manager Frank Stovall stressed the importance of having an evacuation plan in place. He said that the staff at Bailey Manor were able to evacuate everyone from the building in less than eight minutes enabling firefighters to concentrate on minimizing damage to the structure while knowing that the residents were already safe. He took the opportunity to urge that every family should have an evacuation plan and practice it. He promised that if a family needed assistance in developing or practicing their emergency plan, Department of Public Safety personnel would be happy to help.
