Sheriff’s Corporal Christy Johnson yesterday investigated two cases involving the theft of nonferrous metal from houses in Eastern Laurens County. She responded to St. Elmo’s Road, Kinards at 11:16 yesterday morning and met a young woman who said she had been staying at the residence a few days and that before she arrived someone had cut the copper wire and destroyed a wall in the home. She did not know when this occurred. $100 damage to the wall was noted, along with the theft of an estimated $300 worth of copper wiring. Corporal Johnson was called to the 500 block of Sparrow Road, Joanna at 3:53 yesterday afternoon where a woman said she had not been home since Thanksgiving, and returned to find a door to the house was broken in and that copper wiring in the home had been removed, as well as all the pots and pans in the house. A witness reportedly told the officer of subjects having taken copper wire along with pots and pans to a scrap yard recently. Value was estimated at $200 for the copper and $50 for the pots and pans. The case was forwarded to investigations.
