In Washington last night the House approved an Omnibus spending plan. Congressman Jeff Duncan of Laurens issued a statement noting he voted against it. He said “While the spending bill contained several good reforms, it didn’t address the fact that this President has taken extraordinary steps to violate both the Constitution of the United States and our separation of powers. As I’ve said before, the President’s actions are unprecedented, unconstitutional, and violation of our rule of law. We have a responsibility as Members of the legislative branch to protect the Constitution of the United States. I sincerely believe that voters were loud and clear that they wanted Republicans to act boldly against the President’s unlawful unilateral actions. This legislation failed to stop this unconstitutional encroachment, and that is why I urged the Republican Leadership in the House to adopt defunding language for executive amnesty to the spending bill. I voted against the legislation because it did not do enough to stop the President’s executive actions and honor the will of the voters.”
