Laurens Police were dispatched to a Conway Avenue residence at 101 yesterday afternoon after 911 received a call where dispatchers could hear a child in the background yelling and screaming. Lt. Don Evans reported arriving to see a 32-year-old woman walking to the police cars to talk with officers. She said she had been inside playing with her son when her “Obama Phone” dialed 911. She said she didn’t know the phone was on. As officers checked to ensure the child was OK they reportedly found he did not have shoes on and marijuana smoke was observed coming out the door. Further check revealed very dirty conditions throughout the house with piles of trash, including old food and beer bottles. The bathroom was completely dirty with the toilet falling through the floor and blacked on the inside from no cleaning. The father was found sitting on a bed that was reportedly covered with trash and dirty clothing. In the room where the child slept a motorcycle was parked beside the child’s bed. The child was turned over to his grandfather. DSS was to continue their investigation. A Laurens Code Officer advised the residents of repairs needed, including restoration of power, or the house would be condemned.
