New forms of emergency medical assistance may be available by the start of the new school year in District 55 Schools. The School Board this week voted to approve policy changes that will make automatic defibulators available in more schools. Medicine to provide emergency relief for students having allergic reactions will also be available as a result of the policy changes. Superintendent Dr. Billy Strickland told the board that the new policies were previously approved at the state or national level, but that it took until recently to work through the legal complexities and formulate the new policy changes. The District 55 school board voted to not hold a 1st reading on the new policies in order to have them in place by the start of the new school year in August. The board does not meet in July.
