Clinton Public Safety Officer Christopher Shane Harris was dispatched to the Quality Inn on Trade Street at 2:13 Monday morning on report that two females who appeared to be intoxicated were possibly about to leave in a vehicle. Officer Harris checked the motel then found the suspect vehicle turning from Trade Street onto Highway 56. He followed the car to the Pilot Travel Center where the female driver reportedly got out of her vehicle, walked up to the officer and asked for directions to Easley. Questioned about the call about two intoxicated women, the driver reportedly said the two were on their way home from the beach and had stopped to spend the night. She said her friend was intoxicated so she couldn’t sleep, so she left to go home. Officer Harris checked the woman’s license and found it was suspended due to excessive points. During arrest a clear plastic bag was found that reportedly contained pills. Later, an open liquor bottle was reportedly found under a passenger seat. Officers did a welfare check on the other woman at the motel and found her OK, but intoxicated. 43-year-old Shelia Michelle Chapman of 141 Pendleton Woods Circle, Central was booked in Clinton City Jail on charges of Driving under Suspension, Transporting Liquor with a Broken Seal and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. She was released later in the morning on personal recognizance bonds totaling $4,052.50.
